Neath Port Talbot Youth Justice and Early Intervention Youth Justice Plan 24/25

Minutes:

Cabinet Member Councillor Sian Harris for Children and Family Services introduced the report to Council.

 

Councillor Harris went on to inform Council that the plan was carried out on annual basis and devised on a legal duty. The plan is considered when funds are provided by the Youth Justice Board. The plan will focus on priorities for the forthcoming year and will be inclusive of the number of permanent exclusions and a speech and language pilot addressing pupil exclusion.

 

Council were told that the plan aims to continue with a preventative approach, engage earlier with children, more collaborative work with Education colleagues with the aim of improving educational outcomes for young people.

 

Saliant points raised from the plan included vision and strategy, governance leadership and partnership arrangements, previous performance and the plan for the forthcoming year. Resources and services were also highlighted along with board and workforce development. An evaluation can also be seen within the plan and priorities for the coming year.

 

Resolved:

That the plan for 24/25 be endorsed by Council. To enable the Neath Port Talbot Youth Justice Service (Early Intervention and Prevention) on behalf of Neath Port Talbot Council to undertake its duties to deliver youth justice services in line with the Crime and Disorder Act 1998.
