Decision:

Appointment of Chairperson 2025/26

Decision:

That Councillor E.V.Latham be appointed Chairperson of the Margam Crematorium Joint Committee for the Civic Year 2025/26.

Appointment of Vice Chairperson 2025/26

Decision:

That Councillor P.Davies be appointed Chairperson of the Margam Crematorium Joint Committee for the Civic Year 2025/26.

Decision:

Officers gave an update with the Outturn Report and Annual Return 2024/25, as detailed in the circulated report.

 

RESOLVED:                1.   That the Outturn report for 2024/25, be approved.

 

                                      2.   That the Annual Return, prior to external audit certification, for the year ended 31st March 2025, be approved and signed by the Chairman of this Committee.

 

                                      3.   That the Annual Governance Statement be confirmed.

Decision:

Agenda Items 6 and 7 (Margam Crematorium Regulations and Placing Artificial Flowers on Kerbstone Memorials) were taken together, and discussed in conjunction with the circulated supplement. Members agreed an additional recommendation which is reflected as Decision No. 4 below.

 

1.           That point 12 of the Crematorium Regulations, be amended as follows:

 

Wreaths and floral tributes etc. brought to the Crematorium shall be placed in the position indicated or the receptacle(s) provided.  No other vases, jars or containers or artificial flowers are permitted in the Chapels nor within the grounds and if placed will be removed. Artificial flowers can be placed in the designated area of the kerbstone memorials. Artificial flowers are not permitted anywhere else within the crematorium grounds including the chapels. Artificial flowers will be removed if they are found in the areas where they are not permitted (as detailed at Appendix A to the circulated report).

 

2.           That point 6 of the Vase Block Memorial Kerb - Terms and Conditions, be amended as follows:

 

The Crematorium does permit, silk or artificial flowers in the vase block. No flowers, bulbs, shrubs, trees etc. are to be planted in the vase block or in its vicinity and the Crematorium reserves the right to remove any such items and dispose of them (as detailed at Appendix B to the circulated report).

 

3.           That all other parts of the relevant regulations remain as they are at present, and that artificial flowers are still not permitted on the lawns or the chapel areas for the reasons stated in the circulated report.

 

4.           That funeral directors include, within their contracts for families, that artificial flowers are to be removed once they become dishevelled.

Any urgent items at the discretion of the Chairperson pursuant to Section 100BA(6)(b) of the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended).
